Tom Cruise is always the actor I think of when I think of the boss of performing their own stunts in films. Matter of fact, he's now become who I think of when anyone mentions doing crazy stunts at all. If you've never seen the bonus footage of the Mission Impossible movies, I urge you to take a look to see what I mean.
Just to name a few, Cruise has scaled the tallest building in Dubai. Clung on to the side of an airplane for the entire runway and held on while it went airborne. Jumped out of a plane over a hundred times to perfect the scene from 'Mission Impossible: Fallout' with Henry Cavil. The list goes on but those are among the top for me, especially the Dubai building stunt. That was just ridiculous.
Now Tom Cruise is set to star in the first ever film actually set in space aboard the International Space Station. The movie has been approved and officially announced by head of NASA, Jim Bridenstine on twitter, "NASA is excited to work with Tom Cruise on a film aboard the International Space Station!"
Apparently he's been training for the trip for years, though I haven't seen anything that backs that up entirely. I would think NASA and SpaceX wouldn't allow him up without substantial training though. I think this is a really cool step in the direction of commercial space travel. I also hope the movie is worth all trouble. No real word on what the movie is about yet, but I don't think they'd go through all this without having something really special for a story.
Here's some clips of Cruise doing his own stunts:
