CDC Urging Universal Face Mask Use

Due to surging covid-19 cases and the reality of winter months making viral transmission more prevalent in general, the CDC is now for the first time urging 'universal face make use' for all Americans. Basically wear a mask if you are outside of your house, in the cases of being in a communal space or outside and near people.

That doesn't mean its law. Just means the nation's health protection agency has come to the conclusion that one of the best ways to drastically slow down the rising number of positive cases is for everyone to wear masks in every situation that you could possibly transmit a virus, outside of your home.

I think this is perfectly reasonable. And with vaccines seemingly just around the corner (relatively speaking) I think we are all used to the idea of social distancing and wearing masks, so doubling down on these measures kinda seems oddly natural at this point. Especially if there is a reasonable end game in sight. We all knew the winter months would be the most dicey time, prime for a huge second wave of infections.. we don't have great answers to eliminate this issue but at least we can all do these things.

So wearing a face covering and being smart with distancing from others is just logical - definitely don't wanna get into the politics of this issue. Just the science.

If you're around other people outside of your home, especially indoors, then protect yourself and others. It's the right thing to do.

However, I have had numerous discussions with friends who question why I don't wear a face covering when I go for a run. I don't run in densely populated areas and always move out of the way whenever I come across someone, so I question the importance of covering my face then.

Yeah this should be set pretty much in black and white. Wear a face mask when you're around others and in public. Outside exercise I can see being relatively safe if you don't wear a mask, especially if you aren't around a lot of people and still practicing social distancing.
